Karen Dimalanta, PhD
Meet Karen
Welcome! I’m Dr. Karen Dimalanta (she/her), a licensed psychologist in Oregon. I offer individual therapy for adults ages 18 and older through virtual sessions. For more than 25 years, I’ve supported people navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship concerns, and other challenges.
I’m especially passionate about working with BIPOC clients and people from marginalized communities. My practice is a welcoming space for people of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and gender expressions. I invite you to share the parts of your identity, culture, and experience that matter to you, and I’ll approach them with openness rather than assumptions.
You Might Be a Good Fit If...
You’re looking for a supportive place to understand what you’re experiencing and find a way forward that feels right for you. You may be:
Feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns that are difficult to change.
Processing trauma or stressful experiences and wanting to move at a pace that feels manageable.
Navigating grief, a relationship concern, or a significant life transition.
Looking for support with ADHD, mood concerns, or anger and irritability.
Interested in mindfulness and the connection between your emotions and your body.
Wanting room to explore how your culture, identity, or lived experiences shape what you’re going through.
Looking for a therapist who offers empathy and space to process, along with structure and focus when that would be helpful.
How I Work
Clients often describe me as empathetic and balanced. I want therapy to be a place where you can be vulnerable and feel understood, while also having space to consider what might help outside our sessions. I bring warmth, validation, and focus to our conversations, and I respect where you are in your process.
We may pay attention to what is happening in the present moment: your emotions, thoughts, physical sensations, and the ways you respond to difficult experiences. Mindfulness can help us approach these experiences with more clarity and patience. Together, we’ll build a relationship grounded in mutual respect and understanding, with room for your feedback as our work unfolds.
My Approach
My approach is integrative and attentive to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I draw from different therapies to respond to your needs, goals, and beliefs. My clinical approach includes: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) · Motivational Interviewing · Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) · Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) · Somatic Experiencing · Psychodynamic Therapy · Mindfulness
I’m also a certified yoga teacher and Certified Health Coach. Those experiences inform my interest in the mind-body connection and, when it fits your goals, how movement and daily practices can support your well-being.
